If you're heading that way this morning take an alternate route. A tug boat pushing several barges hit the bridge and took out a section.  

This is crazy! I've witnessed a boat hitting a bridge before, and it didn't do half this much damage!! That guy must have been going a good rate to knock out a section. He was either asleep or not paying attention. If you are approaching a bridge that isn't open, back down on it and pull back! Somebody is in a whole lotta trouble!!!! 

Talked with my dad, who operates tugs and he explained what happened. The tug was pushing 8 barges, with 500 tons of materials aboard them. Popps Ferry bridge is the hardest bridge to get thru, really tight squeeze. If you don't get lined up on the first shot then you don't get a second shot. He had so much weight that once he realized he wasn't lined up that he couldn't stop it! 

This has been a royal pain. It's amazing how one little thing like a bridge can disrupt so many lives.
